The great achievements of human ancestors

History of humankind dates back to several thousand years. Ancient history covers a major part of this period beginning from the rise of early civilizations up to the Middle Ages. Some of the early civilizations that became significant milestones in ancient human history include Egyptians, Greek, Vikings, Romans, Anglo Saoxns, and Ancient India civilization. These civilizations rose to their glory and featured many aspects that amaze people up to now. The Pyramids of Egypt, Greek Philosophy, Roman concept of Democratic principles, ancient Indian mysticism to date are considered worthy of appreciation.

Egyptian civilization is considered one of the earliest ancient history civilizations. The civilization prospered in and around the banks of river Nile like all other major civilizations. Most remembered for the magnificent pyramids, the civilization in many respects symbolized humankind attempts to have a definite social order to sustain living. The science of mummification (preservation of dead bodies) mastered by the early Egyptians was one of the marvels of the civilizations. Discovery of tombs of Pharaohs (kings) shed much light on how early Egyptians use to live and conduct day-to-day affairs. It is intriguing to know the beliefs that Pharaohs harbored and the type of work they undertook because of what they believed.

Greek civilization even through an ancient civilization carried all characteristics of a modern society. Olympics, the greatest sporting extravaganza in present time was started by Greeks. The concept of human equality and dignity, the precursor of modern living, first became known during this period. Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato are still studied by students of philosophy and their teachings are still as relevant today as they were thousands of years back.

Ancient history cannot be complete without mentioning the spoils of the great Roman civilization, a civilization that gave great heroes who by their courage, bravery and wisdom helped to establish a kingdom that continued to thrive for many centuries. Romans, inspired by the Greek principles went forward and put into practice these principles. Romans believed in living a good life. They frequently indulged in dining and wining, and enjoying arena fights between gladiators.
Anglo Saxons, a group of German settlers who migrated and settled in Britain are the ancestors of British people. Their way of living and their beliefs continued to inspire many generations of people. They eulogized the virtues of living a dignified and God-fearing life that is still being practiced by British people.

Authors that shaped the twentieth century

It is said that there are some books that should be only tasted, few that should be chewed till digested: some to be read with curiosity, and some need reading with diligent attention. So is the case with the book authors. English literature is filled with the variety of authors that designed the 20th century literature.
Few famous names of book authors that shaped the twentieth century literature are: George Orwell who was a great essayist and novelist and his writings are famous for social and political issues like poverty colonialism etc.

Agatha Christie is a criminal writer who is popularly known as ‘Queen of crime’ has given a new direction to mystery stories and novels.
Ian Fleming the writer of James Bond needs no introduction about his genres. C.S.lewis is another fiction writer who wrote famous books like chronicle of Narnia, The Lords of the Rings, that has given a whole new outlook to fiction. While talking about contemporary writers we cannot forget the name J.K Rowling a writer of harry potter, Enid Blyton whom children adores and Selman Rushdie whose Midnights children won booker prize.

Importance of History in Education

It is the great Philosopher George Santayana who went down in records for the famous phrase ” those who cannot remember history are condemned to repeat it”. History is just as important as the present and the future. Even though a generation has left History in the past, it is very important to understand it. Historical experiences occupy very important positions as sources to which people can make reference and enhance learning. Though not obvious, history applies in the people’s daily life situations. According to crabtree, history plays a central role in how the present is viewed. Experiences of the past largely influence today’s decisions. This eventually forms a basis of learning and virtual aid to any crucial judgment or decision making. Most judicial systems around the world borrow heavily from historical circumstances in the course of delivering justice
• It presents the opportunity to learn from examples of the past
• It allows one to realize where say a society is coming from and just how so much has changed.
• History provides or serves a good understanding of the people and their culture.

Old knowledge

As it is truly said, “Old is Gold”, one must give respect to old times, knowledge, and off course, people. Old knowledge is an approach to conserve and manage the natural resources. Although, today’s scholars, philosophers, readers, writers and scientists give their views, but they can, form nowhere, surmount that of the older ones. The old sayings by scholars are priceless and constructive for a fair living.

The old times,knowledge is stored in old books and old sayings. These books mainly concentrated upon the technology, therapies, methods, science, literature, and magic, practiced by people long ago. These are much more effective than today’s techniques. If we look towards the old medical remedies to cure diseases, we will find excellent ayurvedic methods, which took birth in India, therapies from China and Tibet. For crafts and artistry, one can have a look over the libraries of India, Germany, Italy, China etc. The science of old times was mind blowing. The way people used to intelligently read stars, follow the sun to calculate time, martial arts, do meditation to obtain knowledge, perform telepathy to communicate, utilize the natural resources to earn living without machines, weave quality fabrics for all seasons by hand and used homemade techniques to cook nutritious food was really incredible. They used to take care of nature and move along with it rather than destroying it by moving against it.
